Certified (sworn) translation in Brazil

In Brazil, a certified translation is called a tradução juramentada (sworn translation). It is produced by a public sworn translator (TPIC) registered with a state Commercial Board, and it is required whenever a foreign document has to be used officially in Brazil, or a Brazilian document needs an official translation abroad.

We work with public sworn translators in many languages and deliver translations either digitally, with a qualified electronic signature, or on paper with the translator's stamp and signature. A sworn translation is valid throughout Brazil, regardless of the state where the translator is registered.

When your document is going abroad, we coordinate the whole route: translation, apostille or consular legalization, and shipping. You deal with one team from start to finish.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a sworn translation and a regular translation?

A sworn translation is made by a public translator registered with a Brazilian Commercial Board and carries legal validity. A regular translation has no official status and is used for information or business purposes.

Are digital sworn translations accepted?

In most cases, yes. A translation signed with an ICP-Brasil digital certificate has the same validity as the paper version. Some consulates and foreign institutions still require paper; we check this with you before starting.

How much does a certified translation cost?

It depends on the language pair, the amount of text, the type of document and the deadline. Send us the document and we will reply with a free, no-obligation quote.

Do I need the original document?

A clear scan is usually enough for the translation itself. To apostille or legalize the document, the original or a certified copy may be required.
